Canal Lake Commonwood Fishery (Wrexham)

Canal Lake 16th October 2012.

As this was my second trip to this fishery and I was not to be disappointed, as the facilities are already top draw the only thing I needed was the fishing to match. As the cold weather comes in I have been hunting out great silver fishing venues that will provide some great sport in the colder months I do believe I have found a real gem with this water.

I arrived due to having to pop the tackle shop for a little bait. I settled on the first peg as it was sheltered and the weather was shocking. The water is very well maintained, pegs are well spaced and as it is a canal style water the far bank is easy to reach and you have plenty of features to use, the far bank slopes away and the water was approx 6 foot down the middle so those with waggler or pole can fish with no issues.

The fishing started well and continued to fish well all day, what I enjoyed the most from the day was the vast amounts of bites and activity, I am the type of angler that loves to constantly have bites and I was not to be disappointed as one bit produced a small mirror Carp approx 10oz and the next a Roach about 1lb, I was truly impressed by the amount of fish I took, 40lb in all of mixed small mirror and common Carp, Tench and Roach, all in great condition.

The key to keeping the bites coming was to rotate the bait and feed, feeding little and often keeping feeding accurate. Keep the tackle balanced and light, small hooks and good presentation, when fishing on the slope to the far bank the presentation of the bait and position needed to stay the same to keep the bites coming.

This is a fantastic water and great fishing, the fishery itself has something for everyone and is a great fishery, big thanks to Paul and staff for their support and I am looking forward to my next visit.
