Llyn Gweryd (Winter)

Gwyerd lakes, nr Mold 5th March 2012.

Well, what can I say, first time I have fished the big lake, and the weather was blowing the water all over the show. The water itself is a smashing looking water with plenty of pegs set in a beautiful valley.

There is great access to all pegs, which are very well placed, of good standing, big enough for two anglers, bivvies and plenty of gear. There is plenty of car parking spaces and great facilities, including cafe, tackle shop and toilets.

The fishing itself was made hard due to the weather, me and Graham (The Tench master) Tasker of Lionel’s Tackle Buckley were finding it very hard to drop our feeder in the same place twice due to the howling winds in our face.  But when we did manage got got a good concentration of feed together the bites came.

We fished approx 50 yards out on the wooded side of the lake,  both open feeder and method, with most fish taken on sweet corn and double red maggot. Casting was a nightmare due to the wind, but on a more settled day, if you dropped your feeder on your feed with the clip , the big shoals of bream will be all over it.

We took bream, skimmers, large roach and tench. Graham had a great take on double red maggot which turned out a 4lb tench, and also a brilliant 2lb + roach that was brilliant to see and made Grahams year.

Gweryd Lake.

Feeder approx 50 yards out, on method feeder and open ended feeder with double red maggot and corn.
