South Manchester Angling Club

Club Information.

The club was founded more than 45 years ago by the current club secretary and a close angling friend who sadly passed away many years ago. Initially it was formed for the members of the Chorlton United Services Club located in south Manchester which changed very quickly when word got around to anglers in the surrounding area resulting in a welcome increase in male membership that included their wives, children, friends and relatives. The Club  preference is fishing Natural Waters rather than the growing number of JCB dug artificially stocked holes in farmer’s fields called Commercials.I am pleased to say the club is thriving with the membership continuing to grow and with yet another new fishery acquired for the 2014 season. Those deciding to join us in the future can look forward to some   exciting times ahead with plans for many events and projects for members who enjoy their coarse fishing on natural waters such as rivers, lakes, pools & ponds and socializing with like minded anglers. We are a member’s only club and do not issue day tickets on our waters.

Waters.

Fishery Complexes:

Green Lane pools, Green Lane Knutsford, Cheshire.  Parking is on both sides of the lane near to the entrance gate and with it being rural crime of any kind is not an issue. Two good sized pools with the rear one containing specimen sized carp for those interested in this species.  The pool immediate encountered on entering the fishery complex contains fish in the teens and many other good sized fish of all species.

Fryers & Crookalls Pools, Moss Lane, Knutsford, Cheshire.  Three pools in total two of which are having work done to remove a build up of leaf debris and to fix a troublesome leak. The smaller one regularly produces some good weights with fish into double figures making up catches and popular with members. Parking is available along the side of the lane with all of pools close on either side making it ideal for those of us who have no wish to carry tackle long distances or just want to get a few hours in.

Heron Pool, Chelford Road, Ollerton, Nr Knutsford.  This fishery has just been acquired and currently having work done to improve the road access and create a parking area.  Fish stocks are of an unknown quantity at this time but during negotiations and viewing many sizable fish were spotted. This water will be available to members in time for the start of the season on 16th June 2014. The landowner tells us it has not been fished for many years after his tenant farmer started releasing a bull into the field.
